| Some
people like text books, lots of facts and figures to get
your teeth into. Other people like fables, stories that
have insight within them and suggest ways to approach
things differently in future. I like stories. While I
was "growing up" in management terms I loved
the One Minute Manager series by Kenneth Blanchard and
more recently Who Moved my Cheese by Dr Spencer Johnson.
One day Val McKie
and I were talking about how we must write a book and
what should we write about, courage was one possibility,
leadership another, when Val declared "it should
be a fairy story and you should write it!" Fairy
story yeah right I thought, my training was as a pure
scientist, what nonsense.
Two days later
I had the start, the middle and the end of Magma Effect™
scribbled on scraps of paper around my house and to this
day I do not know where it came from. Val and I like the
story but the real test is whether anyone else will. If
